Chief of the Sector for Emergency Situations

The long-term Chief of the Sector for Emergency Situations, Predrag Maric, passed away as a result of covid-19, it was confirmed to RTS.

Predrag Maric's coronavirus was confirmed at the end of December, and after mild first symptoms, his condition worsened, so he was on a respirator from January 8th.

He is one of the most deserving because a separate Sector for Emergency Situations was formed at the Ministry of the Interior, where he was chief for 15 years.

Predrag Maric was born in 1964. in Smederevo, where he finished primary and secondary school. He graduated from the Faculty of Law in Belgrade in 1990. At the same faculty, in 2009, he completed specialist studies "Terrorism, Organized Crime and Corruption".

He started working in the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Serbia in 1990, in the then Directorate for Fire and Preventive Technical Protection. During 2003, he was assigned to the position of Chief of the Inspection Department in the then Fire Police Directorate.

Since 2004, he has been assigned to the position of Deputy Chief of the Fire Police Directorate, and since 2005 to the position of Chief of the Fire Police Directorate.

He was assigned to the position of advisor to the Minister of the Interior in 2006, and in 2007 he was appointed Assistant Minister of the Interior and Chief of the Sector for Emergency Situations.

At the session of the Government, on March 8, 2012, his mandate was extended for an additional five years.

He was awarded the Order of the National Order of Special Merit in the rank of Knight of the French State for special contribution during the construction of the protection and rescue system and the Sector for Emergency Situations itself. By the decree of the President of the Republic of Serbia, for his dedication to work, he was awarded the gold medal for zealous service in 2011.

The prestigious "Most Belgrade Citizen" award was presented to him in 2009. He won the First Prize on the occasion of the Day of the Ministry of the Interior in 2004 for the achieved results in his work.

He is the author of the books "Terrorism and Organized Crime", "Emergency Management" and "Trafficking in Explosives", as well as the manual "Administrative Inspection Supervision in the Field of Fire Protection".

He has published a large number of professional papers and articles in the field of emergency situations. He has been teaching at the Criminalistic Police Academy in Belgrade on the subject of Prevention and Suppression of Fires, Accidents and Explosions since 2010.

He was a member of the Crisis Staff for the fight against coronavirus.

Predrag Maric will be remembered by the general public for his day and night engagement in the field during the catastrophic floods in 2014, but also for other natural disasters that affected Serbia in the previous more than 10 years.

He was the first firefighter in Serbia, who was most trusted in troubles and natural disasters, always open for cooperation with the media.
