On Tuesday March 22, 2016, 2 new officers graduated from the Camden County Police Academy and joined the ranks of the Willingboro Township Police Department. Officers Moore and Canales successfully completed 25 weeks of instruction at the academy. They will now begin our 14 week training program before hitting the streets by themselves. Good luck to the new officers and stay safe!

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

Graduation from high school or vocational high school or possession of an approved high school equivalent certificate.

Age

Not less than 18 nor more than 35 years of age at the announced closing date for filing the application. In determining maximum age eligibility of veterans, the time spent in active military service during periods specified in the Department of Personnel law and rules will be deducted from the attained age.

License

Appointees will be required to possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license.

Citizenship

Only citizens of the United States are eligible for employment.

Medical Examination

As a prerequisite for appointment, appointees are required to pass a thorough medical and psychological examination. Any psychological, medical or physical condition or defect which would prevent one from performing the essential functions of the position, cause the appointee to be a hazard to himself/herself or others, or become aggravated as a result of performance of these duties, will be cause for rejection.

Background

Applicants must have a good reputation and be of sound moral character. An applicant’s background will be carefully investigated. An applicant who has intentionally made a false statement or practiced, or attempted to practice any deception or fraud in the initial application, examination or interview will be rejected from the selection process.

Selection Process

The selection process is a competitive one consisting of an initial application, written examination, background investigation, interview and, upon conditional offer of employment, a medical and psychological examination.

Examination

The Willingboro Township Police Department is governed by the rules promulgated by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission. We may only hire from a list that is supplied to us by the state. Individuals wishing to pursue a career with our police department must obtain a test application through the New Jersey Civil Service Commission. All phases of the recruitment, selection and hiring process for entry level law enforcement positions conform to the rules and regulations established by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission and municipal ordinance. Entry level examinations are conducted exclusively by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission once every two years.
