HALEYVILLE FIRE/RESCUE

Haleyville Fire/Rescue is a combination department that provides fire protection with a full time Chief, Assistant Chief/Fire Marshall and 3 other fulltime career firefighters, 35 paid on call firefighters of which 4 are certified volunteer firefighters, 18 certified as firefighter II,19 first responders, 3 Licensed EMT-Basics and 2 Licensed Paramedics. Station 1 is manned by full time certified firefighters who work 24 hours on and 48 hours off. The Fire Chief & Fire Marshall work Monday-Friday and fill in on a 24 hour shift in the absence of one of the other career firefighters. The Fire Department's coverage area includes the City of Haleyville and surrounding communities in both Winston and Marion Counties. The coverage area is approximately 72 square miles and serves a population of roughly 12,000 people.

The Haleyville Fire/Rescue Department operates out of two stations. Station 1 is located at 1900 12th ave and Station 2 is located at the Haleyville Airport. Haleyville Fire is dispatched by both the City of Haleyville and Winston County E-911. Haleyville Fire/Rescue can he heard on the scanner frequency of 154.130 Mhz. The Department responds to all types of fire calls,rescue calls, wrecks with entrapment, and medical calls at the request of the local ambulance service. The department averages 250 calls per year. Haleyville Fire/Rescue provides mutual aid to several local departments and currently has an ISO rating of 4. The department will be re-evaluated by ISO in July of 2014. Haleyville Fire responds with the first out pumper in less than 1 minute and averages an on scene time of less than 4 minutes within the city limits. The average response is 20 members per call.


Haleyville Fire/Rescue has an excellent training program. Training is conducted weekly on Thursday night from 7:00-9:00 p.m. The department provides a 160 hour volunteer certification course every 3 years. The last Volunteer Firefighter School began on March 5th, 2012 with 16 students from 5 local departments attending. All courses are taught free of charge except for the cost of text books.


Current projects of the department include a new Station 1 pending the sale and demolition of the current station and city hall, training members as storm spotters and amateur (ham) radio operators, finishing Station 2 at the Haleyville Airport and completing the training center at the old North Waste Water Treatment Plant.


The Department has 1 Chief, 1 Asst. Chief, 4 Captains, 4 Lieutenants, 1 Training Officer, 1 Safety Officer, 1 Public Relations Officer, 1 Fire Prevention Officer,1 Fire Marshall, 15 certified Fire/EMS instructors, 5 CPR instructors, 2 Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructors, 4 certified aerial apparatus operators, 17 certified pumper apparatus operators,19 certified tanker apparatus operators, 2 certified airport firefighters and 3 haz-mat technicians. The Fire prevention officer is available for classes at day cares, churches, schools, and birthday parties upon request.
